This week we explore the benefits of music therapy and physical therapy in relation to brain injury - along with some great information about Concussion Compass (online membership for post concussion syndrome) and Camp Cranium (summer camp for kids with brain injury).

-Music can access so many different parts of the brain and is helpful in creating new pathways; Music Therapy can help with speech, coordination, rhythm, processing trauma, emotions, memory, and so much more.

-Physical Therapy can help brain injury survivors improve in many areas including gait, dizziness, neck pain, the vestibular system, sensory issues, spacial awareness, and more.

-Concussion Compass is an online membership community for people living with post concussion syndrome to help members understand how to move forward with mini-courses, resources, and mentorship.

-Camp Cranium is a non-profit summer camp that empowers kids and teens with brain injury.

 

Meet Our Guests

Lexi Campbell has a masters in music therapy from Drexel University, and her BSN (nursing) from University of Pittsburgh. She has been a pediatric nurse since 2013, and in 2008 she started Camp Cranium, a non-profit camp empowering children with brain injury. Her work has been recognized by numerous awards, receiving awards from the Brain Injury Association of Pennsylvania (BIAPA) and the Council on Brain Injury (CoBI), along with KDKA’s Hometown Hero award in Pittsburgh. She was also nominated for the Jaffee award and has twice been selected as a finalist for the Philly Magazine Health Hero.

Natasha Wilch is a Registered Physical Therapist based in Western Canada who had dedicated her career to working with individuals with concussion. Her passion in learning has led her to training in vestibular rehab, acupuncture, clinical neuroscience and more. She is the owner of Symphony Rehabilitation and Co-Founder of Concussion Compass. Always looking for ways to better serve her clients, she was one of the first clinicians in Canada to offer virtual care. Natasha has won the Canada Entrepreneur of the year award in 2017, Vancouver Island’s top 20 under 40 business & community achievement award in 2018, and this year she won the 2020 Excellence in Leadership Award for Physical Therapy.
