Hilary Greenwald
Hilary Greenwald is an artist originally from western Pennsylvania. She studied art at Indiana University of Pennsylvania 2009-2012 and returned to school in 2019-2024 and received her degree in Bible/Theology and Biblical Counseling/Women's Ministries from Appalachian Bible College. God's Word and art are her two greatest passions and her dream was after graduating to use them together in women's and children's ministries. However, less than two months after graduating from college she received a TBI summer 2024 working at a camp in Maine. Despite a history of concussions and vision problems, this injury changed the course of her life. She decided to stay to finish her treatments but once realizing they were long term she took a step of faith and decided to stay to start her life over in Maine.
Through this painful journey beauty truly came from ashes and she discovered that she has a love for teaching, returned to writing, found healing in weight lifting, and continues to pursue her love for art. Her goal now is to serve in her church and to continue her ACBC biblical counseling training to offer counsel and hope to those specifically with chronic illness and injury through art as her primary tool.

Steps For Growth
This is a mixed-media painting incorporating fabric paint on glass with mosaic elements made of artificial flowers, broken jewelry, and aquarium stones. I have done multiple paintings with footprint themes before but this one came from my brain injury journey in 2024 and finally finished it this year 2026. This painting reflects my walk of faith and my walk through recovering and how it is not linear, the path is not always clear, but I am not on this journey alone. This painting represents how now matter how big our steps are, how fast our journey is, and what direction it always goes in, we can still “choose hope”, grow on our journey, and take steps towards further growth at whatever pace we can. Despite the challenges of brain injury, we can still “water our garden” and cultivate the life we have and bloom where we are, even in hard places.
